Paying Federal Estimated Taxes Online through EFTPS

Here's how it works with EFTPS:

By 8:00 p.m. ET at least one calendar day prior to your tax due date, you log in, enter your tax payment information, review the information, and click "Make a Payment" to initiate the payment. You will receive an immediate confirmation of your instructions that you can print out as a receipt of your payment instructions.

Per your instructions, EFTPS will automatically debit your indicated bank or credit union account and will transfer the funds to the U.S. Treasury on the date you indicate, and your tax records will be updated at the IRS.

That's it. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week you can access this site and initiate all your federal tax payments from the convenience of your home or office.

But you must enroll first.

Before you enroll in EFTPS, you'll need to have some information ready:

  • Your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). For individuals, this is your SSN (Social Security Number).

  • Your financial institution information

  • Your financial institution's RTN

  • Your account number

  • Your account type (checking or savings).

Go to:

EFTPS Online

  • Click on "Enrollment"
  • Accept Privacy Notice
  • Click on "Individual"

Enter and verify all information. After your information is validated, you will be presented with an Enrollment Confirmation page that includes an Enrollment Trace Number. Print this page for your records.

Your confirmation materials will be created and mailed within 15 business days to the primary contact name and address you indicate.

Personal Identification Number (PIN) and instructions on how to obtain your Internet Password will be mailed to your official IRS address of record (this is the address that appears on your tax return or IRS documents).
